UPIS 3-6 Rededicated
Tonio Ocampo (12.07.2007)

After being closed for repairs for more than a semester, the Grades 3-6 Buildings of UPIS were reopened for use in simple ceremonies held last November 29 (although classes were already being held in the premises 21 days earlier). Gracing the event were UP Diliman Chancellor, Dr. Sergio Cao and College of Education Dean, Dr. Vivien Talisayon.

The renovation of the 3-6 buildings started as a request for re-roofing made by then UPIS Principal, Dr. Julian Abuso. In response, Chancellor Cao allocated 3.5 million pesos. Under the current principal, Dr. Lily Reyes, the PTA raised 230 thousand pesos to augment the budget allocated by the University. As such, not only were the roofs replaced, the drainage system was improved and the entire building repainted.

During its closure, Grades 4-6 classes were held in the High School's old building while Grade 3 classes were held at K-2's library wing. This lasted from June to October this year.

More to Come

Coming at the heels of the rededication of the Grades 3-6 buildings, is news that plans are in the works for the connection of the said buildings to the University's network (and as such, the Internet) via a wireless link to the network facilities of the College of Education. The plan will also cover the nearby K-2 buildings. A telecom company estimates the project to cost around 120 thousand pesos. UP High Batch 1968 has agreed (in principle) to fund the program.  This is the same batch that paid for the wireless connection of the Grades 7-10 campus to the University's network earlier this year.
